My week in shoes
I love shoes. I love having access to a variety of shoes. The end.
Note to reader: if you are triggered by pictures of feet, God help you, and go read something else.
Ok, so when it comes to my shoes, I’m a total guardian of the more is more rule. Someday my body will revolt and my feet will reject the cuteness. I’m sure my back will betray me and my knees will quake, and I’ll be resigned to a fresh, orthopedic hell.
But that day is not today. Today, we buy them all, we wear them all, we love them all.
I shouldn’t have to say it, but I’m going to say it: I love shoes, but I also love 1950s musicals and reading physical books (Kindle-schmindle) and running a company and discussing politics and making out with my husband. I’m not stupid, or vapid, or a twit; I just also happen to love shoes. Don’t label me.
Monday
Kate Spade shoes never fail me. I mean it. I own many, many pairs, and they fit my feet like they were designed from a Jena shoe mold. Bonus: they’re creative and add a dash of pizzazz to any ensemble. I’ve owned these for three years, I’ve worn them no fewer than 100 times, and they still look brand new. This tomato/poppy color speaks to me. They’re grown-up jellies!
Tuesday
Tory Burch — I constantly have to tighten the laces on these, but man-oh-man are they cute. These are a compliment magnet. They’re super inconvenient, so I naturally own this style in like four different patterns/colors. Great with jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses. Not good with pants - you need a snug-fittin’ pant or no pants at all to pull off this look.
Wednsday
INC’s Zitah — this is my workhorse shoe. 800+ people have given this shoe a 4.5 star rating for good reason, folks. Comfortable, a good heel height, professional, fun colors/patterns, always available. These babies frequently come out in new colors and are often on sale. Just enough of a rounded toe to keep you from looking witchy.
Thursday
Lovirs — these are polarizing shoes in my collection. I think they’re wacky and fun and this olive/Kermit green color is my jam. Some people think they are fabulous, others tilt their head and say, “Well, those are a choice.” I don’t care. I love them in all their wacky glory. Plus, Amazon needs more of my money.
Friday
Soludos does some really great espadrilles. This is pretty strictly a Friday/weekend shoe for me, but they’re really comfortable and so damn quirky! I have a couple of pairs of these; they’re a little off my typical Southern-prep vibe, but the playfulness works in my Skittle-colored wardrobe.
Sunday
That’s right, it’s another pair of Kate Spade shoes. PINEAPPLES! What kind of crazy lunatic says no to stripey pineapple sandals? I love the basketweave block heel, the fringy palm leaf heels, the bejeweled pineapple scales, and icing on the cake is that stripe detail. Playful, comfortable, sassy AF.
I hear your desperate confusion. Where is Saturday? Well, Gentle Reader, I didn’t wear shoes on Saturday. I was a hermit who did laundry and read a book and cooked stuff and wore a moisturizing mask. I love shoes but turns out I also love not wearing shoes. I’m a puzzle.
Where to Buy
You don’t have to buy cute shoes retail. For investment shoes, yes, spend the money and try them on and don’t be a goober. But for the fun ones, you can save so much money by browsing the Nordstrom Rack website or Poshmark (my personal favorite). I find NWT (“new with tags”) shoes on Poshmark for such a steal — definitely worth the perusal.
So, I have a new side gig. Hinting at this onomatopoetically… snip, pop, zwoosh zwoosh, mmmph, uggggggghhhhh, ahh… pop pop. Got any guesses?
