When you don't feel welcomed

In the face of student complaints that Barbara Bush wasn’t the speaker they wanted for commencement at Wellesley College in 1990 (they wanted Alice Walker), she responded with grace and aplomb, “No big deal. Even I was 20 once.”

And then gave a commencement speech that’s noted as one of the best ever. She told the graduates, “Wellesley, you see, is not just a place, but an idea — an experiment in excellence in which diversity is not just tolerated, but is embraced.”

What challenge or difference can meet and embrace with grace this weekend?
