Our new year's resolutions
This month, a few of us got together to talk about new year’s resolutions. Turns out, we Americans love making them (and breaking them) every year. In fact, the most popular ones for 2019 were:
Diet or eat healthier
Exercise more
Lose weight
Save more and spend less
Learn a new skill or hobby
Quit smoking
Read more
Find another job
Drink less alcohol
Spend more time with family and friends
This inspired a few of us to share our resolutions for 2020. Turns out, we’re a bunch of outliers and trend-buckers. Here’s what we came up with:
Jena
Take better care of my feet. More pedicures!
Put down my work email from the hours of 6:00 pm - 9:-00 pm (this will be the toughest)
Get on a plane once a month
2020: A year without buying shoes
Encourage more. Critique less.

I usually make a half-hearted resolution that is promptly forgotten by January 3. But instead of making a lofty goal like “lose 50 lbs” or something, this year I want to prioritize my health by remembering to take care of myself. That can mean getting enough sleep, moving around enough throughout the day, and drinking water.

Set a theme for the upcoming year. Pick a word, visualize what it means for you, and think of what you can do to fulfill that visualization.
So, my theme for 2020 is contentment. With my work, my family and friend relationships, my weight, and most of all myself. Contentment in who I am and try not to instinctively criticize myself, preemptively put myself down to others, see myself how my husband/parents/friends/loved ones see me.

I try to come up with a list of things to do rather than a list of resolutions. Some are easy, some are really tough. Very few require me to go to the gym. And knowing that the Universe wants to give to us all with both hands, I’ve learned that being even the tiniest bit vague allows you to get what you need rather than what you think you want. So, here goes. this year I will try to…
Stand up straight
Do my hair
Read my TBR piles
Improve my relationship with money
Talk to more people (this will be the toughest)
Be healthy and heal my body
Make more
Go to bed early. Period.
Conversational believes that people are looking for connections in the world. That, ultimately, what we want is to hear and be heard. We believe that conversation is the connective tissue between people. Our stories, and how we share them, bind us together and help us discover more about who and what we do not know. At Conversational, we aim to help share and listen to stories that help us see ourselves in the world.
